Jon Ackroyd

Director

Jon is an award winning chartered architect who co-founded Ackroyd Lowrie. He has over 12 years’ experience in the industry and has overseen numerous schemes of £300K-£20m, as well as master plans of up to £200m.

Following a successful career at environmental pioneers Architype Architects, Jon went on to establish his own practice, to expand on his design flair and environmental expertise, and work with design-led consultants to create innovative, bespoke architectural solutions.

Jon's preceding three major projects at Architype were all award-winning complex refurbishments within locally listed buildings, including the RIBA Award winning Robert Fitzroy Academy, which beautifully unified architecture from different eras with a coherent design strategy to form a legible, contemporary school. Jon strongly believes that technical rigour and carefully integrated technology are central to beautiful design. He is fascinated by how buildings and systems work, and to this end he undertook a City & Guilds qualification in carpentry and joinery in 2012.

Jon feels passionate about the need for positive change in the construction industry. All too often the process can be confusing and inaccessible. Jon founded the practice with a clear aim to break down some of these barriers and to provide a better service for clients and people that use his buildings. This is a subject on which he has led pioneering research, including a three year government-funded study that measured the building quality, environmental performance, and user satisfaction of school buildings for three years after completion.

Jon lectures regularly on building performance and low energy design, and was an invited sustainability expert on the 2014 RIBA London awards judging panel.
