Welcoming our 2023/24 AL Academy Intake

The newest recruits to our pioneering AL Academy programme have started their training! Over the next two years we’ll be working with BTEC Construction and the Built Environment students from New City College (Rainham Campus) to support their architectural careers.

To kick things off, our AL Academy leaders, Laurence Richards and Joe Maguire welcomed the six new students to our East London studio where they will each be completing work placements. An introduction to the team was followed by a design workshop to learn techniques and software, and then the students joined in with our Friday Lunch & Learn to hear a presentation from AI specialist, Allister Lewis on the future for AI within architecture.

Our director, Oli Lowrie closed the session by hosting mock interviews with the new intake.

The AL Academy was launched in 2021 to tackle the challenges of employing graduates out of university, as well as introducing students from the East London Boroughs surrounding our studio to a career in architecture and tackling the challenges they face. By breaking down barriers and positively promoting architecture as a viable career for young people, it is designed to turn work experience opportunities into paid placements and then into apprenticeships and ongoing careers.
