Plans Submitted for Bermondsey Hotel & Commercial Space

A mixed-use development that we designed for a prominent corner site in Bermondsey has been submitted for planning.

The application for 253-255 Southwark Park Road proposes to regenerate a brownfield site, currently occupied by a disused bank, with a boutique hotel, co-working space and ground floor café.

Our design concept comprises a four-storey building to seamlessly integrate and revitalise the neighbourhood through thoughtful massing, material palette and architectural detailing. Key features include:

  • Re-activated street frontage by positioning the café and hotel lobby streetside with large open glazing to make an inviting shared entrance

  • The third-floor steps up to bookend the terrace of shops between Blue Lion Lane and Bombay Street, while the feature chamfered corner of the Blue Anchor pub, common to the area, is echoed on the corner of our proposed design

  • Green/brown roofs with photovoltaics

  • A modern material palette of grey and buff brick, and black metal window surrounds give the development a distinctive identity yet remains in keeping with the architectural language of surrounding buildings.

We anticipate a decision in the New Year.
